Other candidates have remained silent about the lack of competitive bids for expensive projects and lengthy time it often takes to get quotes since FirstService took over. This predates Covid by 2 years, and continued after the board approved bidding guidelines, which I sponsored back in July 2020. It's hard to know the total cost to owners for not adhering to best practice bidding on big projects, but many owners put that number in the hundreds of thousands, or more. That equates to higher dues.

Can you review these guidelines on the Connect Portal? No, since a recent board voted against sharing reports (and other eligible documents) except by request. Leading up to that vote, most of the Board (including current candidates) also opposed providing a list of all available records homeowners are entitled to inspect. I and others have lobbied for compiling a complete list of policies which directors and owners can review, often recommended by industry experts. These are not rules, which are also called the Guide To Living at Gateview. As it stands now, each board seems to selectively remember what it agrees with, while forgetting things it would prefer to ignore.

This video explains competitive bidding for those in a hurry, or who aren't required to engage in due diligence and be a fiduciary.
